📜 Tournament Format

  • This is a 1v1 tournament consisting of 16 players
  • It will go on for 4 weeks
  • EVERY PLAYER will have a match EVERY WEEKEND for 4 weekends starting 17 July.
  • When the tournament is finished every player be ranked from 1 to 16 in the final standings.

Here’s how it will work:

To help with understanding the tourmat format, you should open the Tournament Bracket to refer to while reading these rules.

There will be 2 brackets.

The Winners’ Bracket

  • This is a single elimination tournament where seeds are used to determine the Round 1 matchups, and ranks are used to determine the remaining round matchups where the highest rank will always play the lowest rank.

The Ladder Bracket

  • This is a ladder tournament where the losers of the Winners’ Bracket play.

Ranking

Players will be ranked and rankings will be updated every week after all matchups have taken place.

Players are ranked by the number of total matches they have won. This includes matches in both brackets. A lot of people will have the same number of match wins so number of games won is used as a tiebreaker. Of course, there will also be people who have the same number of game wins so as the final tiebreaker the seed is used. Obviously, nobody will have the same seed so there won’t be a tie.

The seed is only used for determining matchups. For the final rankings if players have the same number of match wins and games wins they will be tied. Seed won’t be used as a tiebreaker since it is out of the player’s control.

In summary, rankings are determined by:

  1. Number of matchups won
  2. Number of games won
  3. Seed

Both brackets use player rankings to determine matchups.

Rankings are displayed in the Tournement Bracket as a number preceded with a “#”. For example, the top player is #1.

Seeding

Players will be assigned a seed by primarily their results in the previous tournament, secondarily their head-to-head matchups, and thirdidarily by their predicted ability by tournament admins. The predicted best player will be assigned seed 1 all the way down to the predicted worst player at seed 16. Seeds are displayed in the tournament bracket in parenthesis to the right of the player name. For example, the top seed is player_name (1)

Seeds are used as a factor in determining a players ranking. However, they are the least important factor and used as the final tie-breaker.

🏆 The Winners’ Bracket

Every player starts in the Winners’ Bracket. The Winners’ Bracket will end in a championship game that determines the 1st and 2nd place players.

The matchups (besides Round 1) are determined by rank so that the best rank plays the worst rank, the second best rank plays the second worst rank, and so on.

The 8 Round 1 winners will go to the Winners’ Bracket, whereas the 8 losers will go to the Ladder Bracket.

This single elimination continues every week until Round 4 (the final).

🪜 The Ladder Bracket

The Ladder Bracket is used to determine 3rd to 16th place in the tournament.

Matchups

Instead of matching best with worst players like in the Winners’ Bracket, players are paired up sorted by rank. So the two best players will play each other and the two worst players will play each other. Players are matched with a player either 1 higher or 1 lower in rank. You will not play the same player twice. If you are matched up against them, you will play v the player of the closest rank in the matchup below if you have not already played them; if you have, it will be the closest rank from the matchup above.

Why do the tournament this way?

Yes, it’s somewhat more complicated than a just a non-seeded tournament. However, there are a few major benefits.

  • By having the single elimination seeded tournament we have a better chance of better players making it further into the bracket and having the two best players make it to the championship. The best players won’t have to face each other early in the tournament.

  • There isn’t just a winner and runner-up determined as the result of the tournament. All players receive a final placing.

  • Players get to play every week. So if you get knocked out of the Winners’ Bracket early you still have a chance play every week and work your way up the ladder to finish at a higher rank.

🗓️ Scheduling

You must schedule your matches and let a tournament admin know when the match is taking place by pinging your opponent’s @ in the bracket-and-discussion channel.

YOU RISK BEING DISQUALIFIED FROM THE TOURNAMENT IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THESE SCHEDULING RULES:

  • You must announce your availability by Friday. You can do so here
  • If you don’t schedule your match by end of day Friday (except for the first week, due to a delay from player recruitment) and you have overlapping availability, then the first time you have overlapping availability will be scheduled as your match time by an admin. If you have no overlapping availability, then your match by default is scheduled for 18:00 UTC time Sunday.

You will have game losses by these rules if you do not have communication that is agreed upon with your opponent:

Without notifying your opponent to reschedule … - If you are more than 15 minutes late you will have a game loss. - If you are more than 30 minutes late, you’ll have a 2 game loss. - If you are more than 45 minutes late, you lose the match.

There is no tolerance for unresponsiveness and lack of punctuality. Keep your fucking discord open you nubs.

  • If you have not filled out the availability sheet and you have not responded to your opponent by Friday (except for the first week, due to a delay from player recruitment), you lose the match 0-5.
  • The bracket will be set on Monday. This is in order to give people time to schedule their matches and to play early matches if they cannot play during the upcoming weekend. Therefore, all matches must be finished by Sunday at the latest. If you do not finish by Sunday, you will lose your match 0-5.
  • You may play your match before Friday once the match is posted if needed and if your opponent agrees.

This is the schedule you will fucking abide by unless you wanna get disqualified like a fucktard:

  • Round 1 Winners’ Bracket (WB) matches will all be played between Friday 17 July and Sunday 19 July.
  • Round 2 (WB quarterfinal) matches and Ladder bracket (LB) matches will be played between Friday 24 July and Sunday 26 July.
  • Round 3 (WB semifinal) matches and LB matches will be played between Friday 31 July and Sunday 2 August.
  • Round 4 (final) match and LB matches will be played between Friday 7 August and Sunday 9 August.

Results will be posted between matches on the Google Sheet bracket that is pinned at the top of the schedule-matches-and-post-results Discord channel.

⚔️ Match rules

    • A player can of course resign the match early if they’d like.
  2. Map Selection:
    • Map will always be small mainland balanced temperate circle
  3. Standard settings:
    • 200 max pop for every game and starting low resources

    • THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THE TOURNAMENT. Matches must be scheduled promptly and between Friday-Sunday of each of 4 weekends.
